Homicide Roundup: Prosecutor Releases Names Of 14 Accused Killers In Summer NJ Murders

It's been a busy four months for the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force.

Fourteen suspects have been arrested in 12 Newark committed from Saturday, June 1 through Monday, Sept. 30, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said.

On Tuesday, June 4, Ty'Shon Young, a 27-year-old Newark resident was killed in a double shooting on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, authorities said. An investigation by detectives from the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force led to the arrest of Timothy Young, 34, for the murder, authorities said. It is unknown if Timothy and Ty'Shon were related.

On Thursday, June 13, Raymeer Shakim Tarver, a 25-year-old Newark resident was killed in a shooting at Boys Park at Sussex Avenue and Duryea Street, authorities said. Police found Tarver suffering from gunshot wounds near a basketball court in the park, authorities said. Task Force detectives identified and arrested two suspects, Kawan McGill and Clevas McIntosh for the murder of Tarver, authorities said.

On Thursday, June 20, Raheem Wright, 49, was shot and killed in the 300 block of Peshine Avenue, authorities said. Task Force detectives subsequently identified and arrested Ty-Juan Travis for the murder of Wright, authorities said.

On Tuesday, July 2,  Jose Bautista was shot and killed in the 200 block of Park Avenue, authorities said. An investigation by the homicide Task Force led to the arrest of Yusef Hanif, and he has been charged with the murder of Bautista authorities said.

On Friday, July 5, Alfonso Mainato-Alulema, 52, was stabbed to death on Magazine Street, authorities said. An investigation by Task Force detectives led to the arrest of Jean Leyba-Lopez and he has been charged with murder and weapons offenses, authorities said.

On Monday, July 22, Edgardo Alvarado, 43, was shot and killed in the 100 block Woodside Avenue, authorities said. Task Force detectives arrested and charged Henry Lopez and Joshua Morales with murder and weapons offenses, authorities said.

On Tuesday, July 23, Brielle Alston, 31, was shot on the 400 block of 4th Avenue and died the next day, authorities said. Tyheed Harris was arrested for her death, authorities said.

On Sunday, July 28, David Boardingham, 54, was assaulted on the 800 block of Broad Street, dying weeks later, authorities said. Christian Hill was arrested and charged with his death, authorities said.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, Eric Givens, 32, was shot and killed in the 600 block of S. 10th Street, authorities said. Darryl Ross was charged with his murder, authorities said.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, Stephn Demba, Jr. was shot and run over by a car on the 100 block of Elizabeth Avenue, authorities said. Shakir Jones-Vann was charged with murder through the investigation remains ongoing, authorities said.

On Monday, Sept. 2, Daryl Craft was shot and killed near 139 Chadwick Ave., authorities said Zyion A. Williams-Jones, 21, was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting, authorities said.

On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Nakiyyah Blue, 26, was shot in a supermarket at 700 South 7th Street. Anthony Hilliard has been charged with her murder, authorities said.
